The dark side: the iPhone - Part 2

(Continuing the first part )

(Steve Jobs, the father of the beast)

One annoying thing that leaves out a lot of people "no techie / geek / freak" is having to add much functionality on the outside, ie following tutorials or guides published online by other people who encountered the same problem threw a pitch or owner of a feature or improvement, and having to research a topic, and rebuscarmela googling for something as simple as turning up the volume that brings little cap, add ringtones without having to buy from itunes, record video (which the phone may bring factory and it is not).

Following the spate of negative things, the latest and most public internet is the problem of updates. The 3G model output brought scandalous firmware updates that add new functionality such as bugs, thus was born the version 2.0.0, 2.0.1, and 2.0.2, with few days of separation between each, and each with his new story. The most notorious is the subject of battery life. To cut this long, I'll just tell you that before my phone (remember, only 3 months) lasted 28 hours in common use (including standby and call), and upgrades to 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 does not reaches the 20 hours ... 8 hours of battery losing only a firmware change I think is rude, compounded by the absence of the warning I mentioned at the beginning of this post, and battery problem I'm sure is not.

Even with all these flaws, the phone for my taste and usage is still very nice, but I imagine that for people who need to use it all day to stay connected and work, you must be a nightmare ... the mini keyboard takes some getting used to the 3G connection consumes twice the battery, the GPS only works in places with high availability of GSM antennas, etc..

Commercially speaking, the strategy may seem unfair sales ... worldwide, the phone (especially the new 3G) is based on the strategy to sell the team to a very low price, but bind the buyer to a costly monthly subscription, if it includes a large number of services and minutes, also commits the consumer to maintain a high payout for a minimum of one year, even in European countries gives the team in exchange for a monthly fee of 200 euros ...

And so with things Apple. The types you get all super close, and as a developer or even a user will find super limited, such as you mention rinngtones or simply adding an app to pass Wifi, you can only cable that comes with the appliance wifi and not eg. His excuse: they are in control of everything and so you can ensure a reliable system. Take it or leave it. I was all eager to buy one but things like that, I cool, by the time I try it with my company was purchased in laburo : D . I will not deny it's a nice gimmick, but for the momendo I think I prefer to wait for a device that gives me the freedom to do what I sing, or at least that the technology available. With the iPhone gives you the helpless at times to know that the device has everything you need to do such a thing .. eg use the 3G and WiFi to make it a perfect access point, but of course, Apple does not want. Not to mention if you want to develop something. You can only develop with the SDK owner of them, and you can only distribute your application by Apple store. Anyway. Since I decided to wait for the Nokia N {something} multitouch who are for taking, or gPhone, or whatever .. but qe let you do or use all the technology we buy. Greetings!
